Bhopal: Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and wife Jaya Bachchan became first customers to purchase jewellery after inaugurating Kalyan Jewellers’ showroom on Friday. They made customary purchase as part of ‘Shagun’. Fans flocked in large numbers to see Bachchan couple as they inaugurated the showroom in Malviya Nagar at Raj Bhavan Road. The fans gave a rousing welcome to Bachchans when they waved at them. It is group’s first showroom in Madhya Pradesh.
Despite the scorching heat, the fans queued up at the venue from 10 am though Bachchans were to arrive at 11.30am. They jostled with securitymen as everyone wanted to get nearer the showroom to have a better glimpse of star couple. In addition to private security, heavy police force was deployed to control traffic and mob. Heavy barricades were placed to regulate the entry. Trafiic van plied around the venue to toe away the wrongly parked vehicles.
Kalyan Jewellers CMD TS Kalyanaraman, ED Ramesh Kalayanaraman and Rajesh Kalyanaraman welcomed Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan on dais. Addressing the fans outside the showroom, Amitabh Bachchan said, “I am son-in-law of Bhopal and I always got so much love. I must thank all. Whenever I came here for film shooting, fans extended love. I have had a long association with Kalyan Jewellers. ”
Jaya Bachchan praised the group’s emphasis on quality, transparency, pricing and innovation in making the jewellery. After addressing the fans, the star couple inaugurated the showroom where they spent nearly half-an-hour. Kalyan Jewellers have offered gifts for customers like one gold coin on purchase of jewellery worth Rs 25,000.
