Mumbai : Investigations into the death of law intern Pallavi Vikamsey point out that she “leaned out thrice” before jumping off the running train on Wednesday. No passengers had tried to stop her or alert others on all three instances and even in the fourth attempt when she jumped.
Police said she could have been very emotional and might be in two minds about ending her life.
“The reason of her suicide is still unknown. We are still probing but she was seen leaning out of the local between Curry Road and Parel stations,” an officer privy to the investigation said.
Meanwhile, the Government Railway Police (GRP) Dadar have recorded the statement of an eyewitness, Geeta Gaikwad, who told investigators that she saw something falling from the train and later overheard a discussion in the compartment of a girl, who leaned out from the train a few times, before throwing herself out of the running train.
The MRA Marg police station, where Vikamsey’s missing complaint was registered on Wednesday, has recovered her missing handbag.
“She had left the handbag at her office. After she sent a message ‘no one is responsible’ to her sister-in-law, Vikamsey’s family panicked and went to her office where her handbag was found. All these indicated a clear-cut case of suicide. But the reason is unknown to us. We are studying her Call Data Records (CDR) to check whom she spoke to last before boarding train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT),” an officer said.
The incident happened more than four days ago but the investigators are yet to record the statements of the motormen who plied the locals between 6:30 and 7 pm on Wednesday.
