Medical secretary expedites various projects in Nagpur

NAGPUR: The state medical education secretary Sanjay Deshmukh took a stock of various medical projects in the city on Thursday and gave a nod to some major projects.

Deshmukh was in city for a court case and hence called a meeting of the deans of both the medical colleges and the officer on special duty of the super speciality hospital (SSH).


Dr Pravin Shingare, head of directorate of medical education and research (DMER) who too was in city with the secretary said that the medical education department gave a nod to the project on Centre of Excellence in Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH). "All these are old projects but need a push. Hence DMER is trying to expedite them & " he said.


The second major decision taken in the meeting was on clearing the first instalment of the Rs100 crore allocated to SSH by the state chief minister. This project costing Rs25 crore includes setting of seven ICUs in cardiology, cardiothoracic vascular surgery, gastroenterology, nephrology, urology, neurology and endocrinology. The project also includes a CT and a MRI installation at SSH.


Dr Dipty Jain, Professor and head of the paediatrics department of the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital has been asked to prepare a project report of Rs4crore for the centre of excellence in Sickle Cell at the Ambedkar Hospital on Indora square.
