THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Parassala police on Thursday registered a case against a Kalari master and owner of a Kalari treatment centre at Parasuvaikkal, near Parassala, for allegedly assaulting a female staffer of the ashram. Guru Balachandran Nair of Kalariyil Dharmikam Ashram is the accused.

The complainant, a 43-year-old woman, had been a sweeper in the ashram for the past 18 months. According to the petition, she was assaulted by Balachandran Nair in his office on Wednesday, the police said. He had allegedly assaulted her for breaking a glass tumbler at the ashram while cleaning.

Another staffer of the ashram saw this and reported it to Balachandran Nair, who summoned her to the office. He used abusive words and slapped her face. He then went on to grab her by her hair and hit her head against the wall. Then he beat her using a cane, at which point she ran out of the office.
