Chandigarh: Three held for ‘molesting, slapping’ woman

Meanwhile, the three accused tried to escape from the spot, but overpowered by the people and later handed over to the police.

Three employees of a private company were arrested for allegedly slapping and snatching the cellphone of a woman employee of a shopping mall near Verka plant at Phase 1 in Industrial Area on Wednesday night.  The victim alleged that the accused also stalked and molested her.

The accused have been identified as Raj Kumar alias Raju of Ramdarbar, Amandeep Singh of Mohali and Suresh Kumar of Palsora village.  The incident took place when the woman employee was waiting for an auto and the three accused started troubling her around 8.45pm. After the woman raised an alarm, one of the accused slapped her and when she tried to contact her family members over her cellphone, another accused snatched it. Police sources said the woman started shouting, attracting the attention of passerby. Meanwhile, the three accused tried to escape from the spot, but overpowered by the people and later handed over to the police.

Devinder Singh, SHO, Industrial Area PS, said: “The three accused working in a factory and were returning to their houses when they spotted the victim and started harassing her. They were nabbed on the spot. Three of them were produced in a local court and sent to judicial custody. We lodged an FIR against them under the charges molestation, stalking and attempting to snatch the valuables.”

A passerby dialed the PCR and a PCR vehicle rushed to the spot. Later, a team from Industrial Area PS also reached.
