Circular lists checks that need to be followed by schools

The Delhi government in a circular has instructed the heads of all schools in the Capital that no outsider/unidentified person will be allowed in the school premises for “stay purpose” at any point of time to ensure the safety of the students.

The circular, issued by the Special Director of Education Binay Bhushan, has listed the checks that need to be followed by the school. It has said that “police verification of all outsourced staff working in the school/office needs to be made by the employer concerned”.

Illegal occupancy

It has also mandate that a cross-check is carried out by the school authorities to ensure that no illegal occupancy is taking place in the school/office premises.

The schools have been instructed to check all almirahs, shelves in classrooms as well as locked rooms in the school to ensure that no dangerous items are stored.

The circular has been issued after two incidents in the NCR; the first in Gurugram where a seven-year-old boy was killed in the toilet of the school and the second an alleged rape of a five-year-old girl by a school peon in the Capital.

Recently, in a midnight raid led by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia at an east Delhi school, it was found the school guard had been renting out classrooms at night.
