Saligao: The Saligao panchayat office will soon be shifted to a new premises located adjacent to the existing building. The construction work of the new premises, located above Saligao market, is in full swing and will include shops to be let out to self-help groups.
The existing panchayat office building is in a dilapidated condition, with the walls of the building developing huge cracks.
The construction work of the new building, which was initiated during the tenure of former rural development agency minister and current Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, had to be abandoned halfway due to some issues with the contractor. Now, the pending works have slowly commenced with the support of local MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar who has assured that the works will be completed within a month or two.
"I am planning to shift the panchayat to this new building, and also intend to allot two shops to self-help groups," Salgaonkar said.
