Indore: 4 more test swine flu positive, alarm for rise in dengue, malaria

Indore: With four more patients tested positive on Thursday, total number of swine flu patients in city so far has reached 104. Till date while 425 samples have been sent to Jabalpur laboratory for confirmation, with death toll from the deadly disease in city standing at 32 so far. With the frequent fluctuation in temperature, health department officials also raised an alarm for rise in vector-borne diseases, especially dengue and malaria.

“Current weather conditions are favorable for breeding of mosquitoes and it will lead to vector-borne diseases. People should take special care of pregnant women and children, as they posses low immunity,” the officials said, adding that avoiding mosquito bite and wearing full sleeves clothes are the easiest ways to avoid mosquito-borne diseases. Meanwhile, IDSP in charge Dr Asha Pandit informed “Condition of 11 patients admitted in various hospitals is critical while the total number of patients admitted are 26.” Critical patients were kept under observation, she added.

“We have started door to door survey and also taking daily reports of the suspected patients. With the increase in number of patients suffering from atypical fever, we have also started fever clinics in all government hospitals,” Dr Pandit said. Number of patient suffering from fever, body ache and chikungunya like diseases are still on rise due to fluctuation in temperature, but the patients are not diagnosing positive in the Mc Eliza test. “We have advised the hospitals to keep track of patients, approaching with complain of fever and body ache, as detection at early stage can save lives of many patients,” she added.


Meanwhile, taking advantage of the crisis and looming threat, private hospitals continue to exploit suspected patients, who were later found to be tested negative for H1N1 and dengue. Health department officials said that they were just awaiting a complaint about any such irregularity to take action against the errant hospital, but they hardly could do anything as patients try sort out the matter at their end.
