The Andhra Pradesh government is considering the possibility of giving five extra marks to students of Class 9 and above who participate in the Clean India drive under the Swachh Bharat campaign, reported Times of India.

The state government needs to build more than 21 lakh toilets to achieve 100 percent Open Defecation Free (ODF) status by March 2019. Thus, students who help the government identify households without toilets will likely receive five marks extra.

"We want the students to help us identify the households without toilets and also encourage their parents to build toilets if they don't have one," Muralidhar Reddy, Managing Director of Swachh Andhra Corporation told the paper.

On Thursday, the Cabinet Minister of Information Technology, Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Nara Lokesh looked at the proposal at the Secretariat. He then directed officials of Swachh Andhra Corporation to keep a track of students who take part in the Swachh mission.

Reddy added that the officials are also planning to include engineering and medical students. While an engineering student can help design the toilets according to an area's requirement, medical students can spread awareness about cleanliness.
