KOCHI: Ahead of Brazil’s first match in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Rui Santos Rocha Camargo - an officer at the Trade Office of the Brazilian Embassy in New Delhi - visited the Kerala Blasters Football School on Thursday. He interacted with the trainees, distributed jerseys and match tickets to them. The KBFS trainees played an exhibition match, with the teams wearing the Indian and the Brazilian jerseys. After the match, Camargo encouraged them to pursue a career in football. He also briefed them about how Brazil is supporting children at the grassroots to promote football in their country.

“The World Cup is a great opportunity to promote football in India. Indians are very passionate about this game and I can see this enthusiasm in these children as well. I appreciate the initiative taken by Kerala Blasters Football Club to promote football at the grass root level. India has a great potential to become one of the best countries in the game of football and these grassroots initiatives will help identify talented kids who can be trained and nurtured to become players of international stature,” he said.
