Jharkhand man arrested in Madkai desecration

Ponda: Over two months after the incident, Ponda police have made an arrest in the Madkai graveyard desecration case. Police said locals had seen the suspect banging on chapel doors a day prior to incident.
The suspect, Debashis Dandapat, 25, was Dandapat was arrested from Jharkhand by a special team of Ponda police under PSI Arun Bakre, on October 1.
Dandapat has been under psychiatric treatment since 2012, at Ranchi and Cuttack, till he arrived in the state, police sources said, adding that since he had once again developed symptoms of psychiatric ailment, his friends had forced his parents to take him with them to Jharkhand in early August.
Police have brought Dandapat to Goa under a transit remand from the judicial magistrate of Ghatshila, Jharkhand. He will be produced before the court on Friday, police said.
On July 25, at least twelve crosses at the Fatima Chapel cemetery at Karanzal, Marcaim were found desecrated.
