Irrfan Khan can be called the torchbearer of content-driven cinema in India. He has also tasted international success with projects like The Namesake and Life of Pi among others.

Today, Irrfan was in Mumbai for the trailer launch of his upcoming film Qarib Qarib Singlle, also starring Malayalam actor Parvathy. This film also marks Parvathy’s Bollywood debut.

While the trailer looks great and the story seems relatable, one cannot deny how real it looks and how once again it shows Irrfan Khan in a content-driven film, after his last hit Hindi Medium.

When he was asked if he chose this film because it had a good story, and what his views are on content-driven films doing great at the box-office this year. The Paan Singh Tomar actor emphasised the point that content-driven films are finally doing well because the audience is evolving, and is exposed to international films.

Irrfan Khan said, “The trend of content-driven films has been around for some years now. Our audience is now well accustomed with international cinema, and people expect better from us. Hindi cinema used to be very generic. There were no films where we could have a conversation about, films are not only about entertainment all the time. So, this kind of films (content driven) should be made. It’s not only my films. Rajkummar Rao’s films are also doing great. And that’s because the audience has evolved.”
