Law and order in UP needs improvement: Ram Naik

Governor Ram Naik said there was a need to improve law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. Naik, who was in Kanpur to inaugurate a three-day international seminar on fight against cancer at CSJM University on Thursday, said he had been speaking about law and order situation even during the previous Akhilesh Yadav government.

“The Akhilesh government was my government and so is the present one. Today I say again law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh needs improvement,” he said. However, lauding chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s initiatives on the issue he said, “The CM is making great efforts to improve law and order situation and I hope positive results will be visible soon.”

To a query about meagre amounts being paid to farmers under the loan waiver scheme, Naik said it was one of the most ambitious schemes of the government and shouldn’t be ridiculed. Farmers, he said, were benefitting with the loan waiver immensely throughout the state. “Those who got a waiver of Rs 2 and Rs 5 should come to me with their complaint and I will get it investigated,” he said adding further, “Otherwise people should refrain from speaking on the issue.”

Speaking about crime against women, he said every woman has a right to lead a safe life and it is the duty of the government and society to ensure their safety. “When a crime is committed against a woman; it is a person from this very society who is an aggressor,” he said.

Naik further said he would suggest granting ranks to the universities at meeting of state governors with the President of India on October 15. This would help to create a competitive scenario in all 750 universities in the country that would give a fillip to education standard.

Inaugurating the seminar on cancer the governor advised patients to be strong and said they could overcome this deadly disease through good treatment coupled with family’s support. He advised doctors to regularly update themselves about new treatment methods and also advice poor patients to seek government’s help for treatment.
