Chef box office collection day 1: Saif Ali Khan starrer Chef’, which is an adaptation of the 2014 Hollywood hit of the same name by Jon Favreau, has hit theatres today. However, the movie hasn’t been able to generate the kind of momentum created by the last week’s release Judwaa 2, whic is on a roll and is cementing Varun Dhawan’s place as a megastar. As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, occupancy rates during the morning shows of the movie have been pegged at approximately 10-15 per cent. Given the hype around the movie, much higher occupancy was expected. Although, the movie has a chance to pick up as it has managed garner as many as 1897 screens globally, according to Bollywood analyst Taran Adarsh. Earlier it was expected that Chef collection will be around Rs 3-4 cr. Looks like it will not be able to rise above that after all.
Chef explores the tale of a professional chef Roshan Kalra (played by Saif) who is struggling between his work and love for his son. He tries to keep his son happy and revive his professional career. He abandons his job to set up a food-truck business of his own. In an attempt to reconnect with his family, Roshan tours the city with his son and makes him taste different varieties of food and places. There are other films which release with this movie, which include BLADE RUNNER 2049 and VICTORIA & ABDUL. Coming to the last week release, Judwaa 2 is still dominating the box-office and has so far made Rs 98.08 crore, reports trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
