Mumbai: An era in Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy Hospital comes to an end with Dr. Tatyarao P Lahane, Dean and Head of the ophthalmology department handing over the dean charges to Dr. SD Nanandkar on Thursday.
Dr. Lahane has been the dean of the esteemed state-run medical college for the last seven years and eight months. He has completed 22 years of service to the hospital as an ophthalmologist, head of the ophthalmology department and later as dean of the hospital.

Confirming the news, Dr. Lahane said, “I am handing over the charges to Dr. SD Nanandkar who was the head of the department of forensic science at JJ Hospital. I am looking forward to working with other joint directors at DMER. Though I am leaving this hospital, I would still be visiting here to treat my patients.” The Padma Shri awardee is known for his cataract operation camps and holds the Limca Book of Records for the most such operations. He is known for many of his achievements and efforts at the hospital.
Lahane has always been in the news for all wrong reasons like facilitating overstay of Chagan Bhujbal in a private hospital by flouting court orders. His name had also cropped up in the Sheena Bora murder case for helping main accused Indrani Mukherjea. He was also booked in an atrocities case for allegedly making casteist remarks against a staff, however, he was recently acquitted from the case.
