Scores of people join MLA, Collector in 6-km walk

It turned out to be a walk with a difference when I.B. Satheesh, MLA, and District Collector K. Vasuki set out on a mossy path abutting a clear stream the sides of which were awash with plantain, coconut trees, areca nut palms, ginger, and yam. They were joined by scores of local people who had arrived to participate in the campaign for water security.

From Kaduvakuzhy

The walk began at Kaduvakuzhy in the Kattakada constituency and culminated at Kalluvarambu, six km away.

Flowers and refreshments greeted the Collector and the MLA all along.

Volunteers of the SPC, NSS, and CDS engaged in activities designed to ensure a clean water source.

A press note issued here quoted Mr. Satheesh as saying that the experience of walking for a perennial source of water proved to be an incomparable lesson.

“What one can do for the coming generations is to ensure wells and ponds that do not run dry, and a soil that is perennially moist,” he added. Dr. Vasuki described the day as ‘unforgettable’.

The Yathra was organised in connection with the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations of the district information office.

Various people’s representatives also took part.
