Displaced families block road, demand rehabilitation

Press Trust of India  |  Mathura

The families displaced after their homes in flood zones were razed today blocked traffic on a road here after they were unable to meet Chief Minister to raise their demand for rehabilitation.

They alleged that the district administration had assured them of a meeting with the chief minister, but did not arrange it.

"The road block was lifted when the protesters presented a memorandum addressed to the chief Minister to ADM Ravindra Kumar," said district RLD chief Kunvar Singh, who led the protest.

"The administration had assured earlier, that it would ensure meeting of the delegation with the chief minister. However, it was was not arranged and the delegation was kept waiting," he said

The protesters were demanding rehabilitation as their houses were demolished by district administration owing to an order of the high court, Singh said.

The RLD leader claimed that the Nikunjvan's Panighat Ashram, which the chief minister visited today, is also in the flood zone.
