East Godavari tops in NREGS works

KAKINADA : East Godavari district has stood first in completion of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) works in the State, District Collector Karthikeya Mishra has said. He reviewed the NREGS works through a video conference with divisional and mandal-level officers at the Collectorate here on Wednesday.Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the district has won accolades in the following categories-average wage, timely payment, farm ponds, solid waste management, Anganwadi buildings, gram panchayat buildings and horticulture works.

The Collector complimented the officials for monitoring the works regularly. He also directed the officials to expedite laying of CC roads, construction of housing projects and farm ponds. He expressed happiness over the progress of NTR Rural Housing works. He informed that 92 per cent of works i.e., construction of 21,929 houses out of 23,897 houses sanctioned for the year 2016-17 have been completed.

The Collector said that out of 14,189 houses sanctioned for the district under NTR Rural Housing Scheme for the year 2017-18, construction of 8,123 houses have been completed. He told the officials to ensure that nearly 15,000 beneficiaries in the district perform Gruhapravesam of houses by January.
