New Delhi : The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion is in no mood to ease the local sourcing norms for US-based Tesla Inc, which has been actively trying to enter the Indian market, department’s Secretary Ramesh Abhishek told a private TV channel on the sidelines of the India Economic Forum organised by the World Economic Forum.

“Tesla had written to the government on local sourcing norms and we have told them that we cannot provide any special treatment to them on that front,” Abhishek said. Last week, it was reported that the electric car manufacturer had initiated talks with the government to enter India through the single-brand retail route, which comes with several riders including mandatory local sourcing of up to 30%.
