Audi A5 Cabriolet and Sportback India launch: This is what sets these two sedans apart from the other Germans

Audi A5 Sportsback and the A5 Cabriolet will launch in India later today, here’s everything about the new Audis’ Audi India like most other brands under VWs umbrella in India has taken an aggressive stance on their portfolio in India promising to add 10 new cars to their roster this year. Following a slew of launches this year, Audi plans to further push the envelope by launching what they are calling the A5 Brat pack, which entails the second-generation A5 in both Cabriolet and Sportback body styles. This is the first time the Indian market will get a 5 nomenclature Audi sans the S5 that was already on sale. The interesting bit is thanks to the fact that the A5 sits between the A4 and the A6, it will face very little in the form of competition. Its dynamic price tag might be the reason that Audi expects it to do well.

The convertible A5 ,probably launched after Audi received an unexpected response from the A3 cabriolet which they launched earlier, is the second such drop top that Audi will field in the sub-continent. The A5 is based on the A4’s platform and gets most of its styling cues and interior features from its smaller sibling. The Audi A5 will have a stretched wheelbase, with short overhangs and a domed hood that wraps around the front end of the car. The fatter wider grill adds character to the car setting it apart from the A4.

Longer by 17 mm, the A5 has a lot of added shoulder room and knee rooms, while the wheelbase is retained at 2824 mm. The dashboard draws its cues from the new Q7, and the single unit vent takes front and centre on the dashboard.

It’s go faster cousin with the S-badge will feature a twin-turbo V6 under the hood and that makes more power than the older car with 349 hp and 500 Nm of torque on offer. Meanwhile, the more sedate A5 sedan gets power from a 2 litre diesel engine. The Cabriolet will come with the Quattro all-wheel-drive system thus helping it go from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in just 7.8 seconds.

The strange thing is that while the A5 cab will face competition from the Mercedes-Benz C Cabriolet, the A5 will have no competition in India. We expect Audi to price it very competitively but we will have to wait until the launch for that.
