Filmmaker held for raping domestic help

NOIDA: A 40-year-old small-time film producer was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping his 25-year-old domestic help and blackmailing her with an MMS clip he recorded of the crime in Noida. The accused, Anoop Ganguli, is a resident of Sector 15. According to police, Ganguli had shot small films and produced TV serials.

The crime came to light when the survivor's husband filed a police complaint on Tuesday following which an FIR was registered against the accused at Sector 20 police station. He said his wife worked as a domestic help at Ganguli's house. The couple live in Naya Bas village in Sector 16.

"My wife was working there for over a year. Ganguli sexually assaulted her several times and also made video clips of the crime. He threatened to make the videos public if my wife disclosed the matter to anyone," he said.

The accused also tried to threaten the woman saying her husband would throw her out of the house once the video is made public. "The accused told my wife that the MMS would destroy our household and would separate her from me," the complainant said.

He further said that Ganguli threatened to frame the woman and her husband in a fake case and put them behind bars. The complainant stated that his wife did not disclose the matter for some months and went into depression. However, on Tuesday, she narrated the ordeal to him. He then went to the police station and filed a complaint against the accused.

Anil Kumar Shahi, SHO, Sector 20 police station, said based on the complaint, a case of rape under Section 376 of IPC was registered. "The accused lives alone in the house. A police team visited the spot and arrested him. He was later produced in court and sent to judicial custody," Shahi said.

The accused said he produced some daily soaps and even made a feature film. The police are investigating the contents of the films and serials he had produced.
