A 21-year-old law student was found dead near Parel railway station Wednesday evening. The police said she was last spotted boarding a train from CSMT an hour before the incident was reported and that it was not clear how she died.

Pallavi Vikamsey was interning with a law firm, Oasis Counsel and Advisory, in South Mumbai, and lived in Parel. Her father Nilesh Vikamsey is president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, according to the police. Before leaving office on Wednesday evening, the police said, Pallavi texted her family saying she intended to end her life. “She sent text messages to a few family members telling them that no one should be held responsible for her actions. She then switched off her cellphone. They began to search for her and when they couldn’t find her, they came to us,” said Sukhlal Varpe, MRA Marg police station, where a missing person’s complaint was registered by her family.

After scanning CCTV footage, the police found that Pallavi boarded a train from platform 5 at CSMT at 6 pm. Samadhan Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Railway), said the Dadar railway police station was informed by the station master at Dadar at 7.15 pm that a woman’s body was lying on the tracks between Currey Road and Parel stations.

The police said the only belongings found on the body was a ring on Pallavi’s right hand. Nitin Bobade, SI, Dadar railway police station, said her cellphone was not found on her body.  “Her family identified her body today. After a post-mortem, the body was handed to the family. Till now we have found no foul play regarding her death. Investigation is going on,” Pawar said.  A case of accidental death has been registered at the Dadar railway police station.

The police added that the cause of Pallavi’s death was unclear. “The only injury on her body was on her head. We have recorded the statement of her father. But he said that he does not know what happened,” said a senior police official.

Pallavi was a fourth year student at Pravin Gandhi College of Law in Vile Parle West and had also studied at HR College of Commerce and Economics in south Mumbai. After learning of her death, several chartered accountants in the city sent condolences to the Vikamsey family. Her last activity on her Facebook were pictures from a vacation and from the wedding of her sister.
