Liquor baron's grandson surrenders in Bengaluru

HYDERABAD: Bengaluru City Crime Branch police on Wednesday arrested Geetha Vishnu, grandson of AP liquor baron, the late D K Adikeshavulu Naidu, for possession of narcotics and for causing an accident and produced him in First ACMM Court, Nrupatunga Road, Bengaluru. The court granted him bail in the case as he was allegedly in possession of a small quantity of ganja.


Police said Vishnu crashed his SUV into a Maruti Omni van injuring six on September 28 in Jayanagar. CCB police search for Vishnu for five days ended on Tuesday when he surrendered. Bengaluru city police commissioner T Suneel Kumar confirmed Vishnu's arrest to TOI.


Jayanagar police who booked two cases -one regarding possession of ganja under NDPS Act and another for road accident under 337 IPC -transferred the cases to CCB.According to an IPS official of CCB, Geetha Vishnu was gran ted bail by the court immediately as he was in possession of 110 gm ganja. He said so far no Tollywood link was found in the case. The officer said, "we have to investigate all angles.''


Police said Vishnu was intoxicated when SUV rammed into the Maruti Omni. Police said Vishnu escaped from the police custody from Mallya Hospital through fire exit door with the help of a private security guard. Surveillance cameras captured his escape on September 29 morning. A separate has been booked against him at Cubbon Park Police station for the escape. Jayanagar police also booked another case for damaging footpath and furniture in the car mishap.


Police said Vishnu initially took shelter at the flat of his brother-in-law Dr Rajesh Naidu in Whitefield on September 29. He then fled to Hyderabad and returned on Tuesday. The accused filed a petition in Bengaluru sessions court for anticipatory bail on Tuesday but later surrendered. A separate case of robbery was booked by Jayanagar police following a complaint lodged by Vishnu stating that the mob, which had gathered after the accident at South End Circle, had stolen his gold ornaments and cash cards.
