Man held for fishing in Okhla sanctuary

NOIDA: A 25-year-old man was arrested for fishing in the waters of Okhla Bird Sanctuary on Thursday morning. The accused has been identified as Dinesh Kumar.


Ashok Kumar Sharma, an inspector of the sanctuary, said he found three persons fishing in the sanctuary waters early in the morning. "We called a team of officials and surrounded the suspects but they began to flee. We nabbed one accused, identified as Dinesh, while his two accomplices Rajendra and Shiv Charan managed to escape," Sharma said.


During the search, the sanctuary officials found 20 fish, a fishing net and a scooter from the spot. The accused was later brought to Sector 20 police station where a case under sections of Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 was registered.


Anil Kumar Shahi, SHO, Sector 20 police station, said Kumar was produced in court and sent to judicial custody. The police have sent one fish, as sample, for postmortem and report is awaited. Police are making searches to arrest the others who fled.
