The father of the six-year-old student, who was raped allegedly by a housekeeping staff, said his daughter is “traumatised and has refused to go to school”. The girl has been studying in the school for two years.

The father, who works as a warehouse manager, said the incident took place because of “complete carelessness” on part of the school. “My daughter is recovering but is in shock. Doctors at AIIMS kept her under observation for six hours on Wednesday night before discharging her. She is back home now,” he said.

He added that he had taught his daughter the difference between ‘good and bad touch’. “I never thought something like this would happen to her. I regret sending her to this school; I am not going to send her again. The accused should get the harshest punishment. He could have killed my daughter as well, like what happened at Ryan International School a few weeks ago.”

A manager at the school said: “A week ago, we conducted sessions on ‘good and bad touch’ for every class. We also appointed female staff outside every washroom and increased the number of CCTV cameras on the premises.” She said the female attendant of the washroom, where the child was assaulted, has been suspended for dereliction of duty.
