VIJAYAWADA: Director General of Police N Sambasiva Rao has said that efforts are being made to construct more model police stations as the concept is gaining greater acceptance among the people of the State. The DGP, who inspected the sites identified in Gudivada town and in Kaikaluru town in Krishna district for constructing model police stations and staff quarters, told mediapersons on Wednesday that main objective of the model police stations is to create congenial atmosphere for the people to come and explain their problems and difficulties to the police personnel.

“What we want is to create an atmosphere at the police stations so that people get confidence that their safety, security and justice is ensured, while wrong-doers have to fear and repent,” the DGP said.
Stating that there is no dearth of funds, the DGP said tenders have been called for the construction of 40 model stations in the State. The model police stations set up in Kuppam, Sattenapalle, Old Guntur, Chittoor and other places are getting good response, he said. He also appreciated Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas for facilitating necessary sites in Kaikaluru for model police stations whose construction will be taken up on the Public Private Partnership mode.

Sambasiva Rao said when he was undergoing training at the National Police Academy, he never heard of the word cyber crime, but today the incidents of cybercrime are on rise. He stressed the need for creating more awareness about dealing with cybercrime among police personnel by giving training to them.
“It has been decided to establish cyber labs as part of the police modernisation. The labs will not only be set up in cities like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati, but also in small towns in all the districts,” he said.

The Central government has sanctioned `2,400 crore for modernisation of the police force in the country and Andhra Pradesh, which is one among the Left Extremism-affected States, will get part of the funds.
“Further, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had already sanctioned Centre For Excellence in Amaravati. Already three acres of land has been provided for the purpose in the capital city Amaravati and another two acres of land is being acquired for the same. Forensic expert Gandhi is preparing plans for setting up the Centre of Excellence,” Sambasiva Rao  explained.

Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said that more modernised and model police station will be built to reduce crime rate in the State.  He said `27.5 lakh has been donated by people in Aquaculture sector in the region for the police station while another Rs 25 lakh will be provided from MP funds. Krishna district SP SS Tripathi and others were present.
