In perhaps the first of its kind, users of Google’s latest smartphones Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, will not have to use any  SIM card in both sets, the company has said. According to theverge.com, the company will use  built-in eSIMs to validate cellular account for Project Fi subscribers. Before today no smartphone used the eSIM standard. This technology has  been reserved for LTE-equipped smartwatches, tablets among others.

“This means you no longer need to go to a store to get a SIM card for wireless service, wait a few days for your card to arrive in the mail, or fumble around with a bent paper clip to coax your SIM card into a tiny slot,” Joy Xi, a product manager for Project Fi wrote  in Google’s official blog post . “Getting wireless service with eSIM is as quick as connecting your phone to Wi-Fi,” he added as per the website.

On Wednesday, the company launched new phones, 6-inch Pixel XL and 5-inch Pixel and smart speakers and other devices, Associated Press reported.
