Remakes seem to be the flavour of the season. And the latest to join the list is Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshaye Khanna film Ittefaq, which is based on the 1969 classic starring Rajesh Khanna and Nanda. The crime thriller directed by Abhay Chopra revolves around a double murder with two suspects.

Ittefaq’s trailer is here and it looks like an edge of the seat thriller. The film’s first look explains that the story will be told through two points of view, something that we also saw in Meghna Gulzar’s 2015 film, Talvar. The trailer begins with an injured Sidharth Malhotra landing up at Sonakshi’s doorstep to ask for help. She lets him inside the house but that mistake changes the course of the night. Sonakshi and Sidharth play suspects in a double murder case and through interrogations with the police, they are both trying to prove their innocence.

Akshaye Khanna is playing a cop in the film and it probably is just a coincidence that his last appearance, Mom (starring Sridevi) also had him don a similar role. Sidharth’s last release A Gentleman had him playing a double role. Sonakshi Sinha was last seen on the silver screen earlier this year in Noor. Sonakshi also judges the TV reality show, Om Shanti Om. This is the first time these all three actors will be seen in a film.

Watch the trailer of Ittefaq here:

Just a day ago, the actors took to social media and shared the posters of the film. Producer Karan Johar, through a tweet rerevaled that Ittefaq will have no promotions to ensure the suspense around its plot stays till its release. This marketing strategy is surely a first for any film seen in decades.

The original 1969 film was directed by Yash Chopra under the B.R. Chopra banner and can easily be considered as one of the best crime thrillers of the time. We are yet to see if the adaptation sticks to the original plot entirely or the story has been updated to keep up with the times. A good crime thriller with multiple points of view sure sounds like a treat for fans.

Ittefaq releases on November 3. Here’s hoping Ittefaq delivers just like its trailer.
