Congress party is accused of propagating dynasty politics and it also faces criticism from Opposition for not allowing other leaders to stake a claim for its presidency. Leaders like PM Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah keep blasting the party and say everyone is well aware that who will take the reigns of Congress from it’s chief Sonia Gandhi. Needless to mention, they refer to Rahul Gandhi for being next obvious chief of Congress.

However, one may well wonder if anyone can ever challenge Rahul in Congress. The answer to this question was given by Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala in press conference. Speaking to the media, Surjewala said that though Gandhi remains as the unquestioned choice for the post of party President, Congress being a democratic organisation, will not shy away from allowing any leader to contest against him in the organisational polls.

“Rahul Gandhi continues to remain the unquestioned choice of every Congress leader and worker for becoming the President of the party,” Surjewala was quoted as saying. According to Surjewala, Gandhi was democratic enough and the party was resilient enough to welcome anybody to come and aspire to any post in the party, including the post of President.

“We are in a democratic party with internal democracy. Congress party has never shied away from a democratic challenge inside the party,” Surjewala was quoted as saying by IANS. “The process of organisational election is going on in the states and within a month, the picture related to party President will be clear,” he added. Surjewala further added that party leaders and workers have many times expressed several times that Rahul Gandhi should take up the responsibility of Congress leadership.
