Assam minister files complaint against BJP MP

Press Trust of India  |  Guwahati

Irrigation Minister and leader Ranjit Dutta today filed a written complaint with the state party authorities against MP R P Sharma, who has alleged that he was involved in corruption.

Dutta, a from Behali, handed over the complaint to state president Ranjit Dass, who summoned Sharma to discuss the matter with him.

Dass told reporters that an emergency meeting of the party will be held on October 7 to discuss the issue in detail.

He, however, did not reveal details of the discussion he had with Sharma, a MP from Tezpur constituency.

Dutta in his complaint said that Sharma's allegations were "baseless and irresponsible which will affect the party".

A local TV channel had claimed that Sharma, during a sting operation, alleged that the irrigation minister was involved in corruption and allotted work for various schemes of the department only after he was paid a commission.

Meanwhile, Opposition parties and the All United Democratic Front (AIUDF) have demanded an inquiry into the allegations.
