R Bhuvan Chandra, who studied Aviation & Travel Management, switched gears and entered tinsel town. The young actor started his acting career with Sirivantha in 2007, where he played Vishnuvardhan’s son. Soon he was cast as the second lead in Shravana and finally as the leading man in Sambhava.
The actor appears in Kidi – The Spark, which releases today. The film, directed by Raghu S, is a remake of the Malayalam hit film Kali, which talks about anger management.
Bhuvan plays cricket and is part of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). He says he joined CCL because of Sudeep who “saw my bowling skills and wanted me to be a part of CCL.”
Talking of his journey, Bhuvan says, “I come from a non-filmy background. Sirivantha happened when I was still studying. Once the film was complete, I went back to complete my education. I later tried to make a comeback in films, but it was tough.”
So Bhuvan started off with dance shows and became a part of Haku Hejje Haku on ETV which is now called Colors Kannada. “I was looking for a good storyline and decided to make Kidi, as I was impressed with the story line. All of us get angry. The film narrates the story of a young man with anger issues,” he adds.
Kidi begins with a couple and their struggles. “The twist in the story starts with a road rage event. We chose Kidi as the title as it means ‘that spark’. As everything starts with a spark, we thought this would be a short and an apt title for our film.”
Of his journey to being the leading man, Bhuvan says, “It takes grit and determination to hang in there. It has been an uphill journey. I dedicated a year to learn stunts as I wanted everything I do on screen to look as natural as possible.”
Ask him what his definition of a good film is and he says, “It is one that has natural acting and a story that connects with the audience.”
The film is also dancer-choreographer Raghu’s debut as a director. About Raghu, Bhuvan says, “he is one of the best choreographers. His songs ‘Kunidu Kunidu Bare” in Mungaru Male and many other songs are a big hit. I love the way he perceives a character. It is a wonderful experience to work with him. I feel that anyone who is thirsty to establish themselves will have a passion. So the team of Kidi has such people in it.”
Kidi, produced by Mallikarjun, Nagaraj and Dhananjay (Bhuvan’s brother), releases today.
