After concluding the nearly 150-km padayatra as part of tax denial satyagraha on Monday, the Gram Seva Sangh members, including theatre personality Prasanna, will meet in Bengaluru on Wednesday to chalk out the future course of action in its struggle seeking all handmade products be declared zero tax under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.

This comes ahead of the 22nd GST council meeting scheduled on October 6 at New Delhi. The padayatra, which had commenced on September 24 from Junjappanagudde in Sira taluk of Tumakuru culminated at Kasturba Ashram in Arsikere in Hassan district on Gandhi Jayanthi. During the padayatra that covered about 25 villages, discussions were held enroute to understand the impact of GST on rural economy.

“The sangha members will meet raita sangha leaders and representatives from like-minded organisations,” Mr. Prasanna told The Hindu. While the movement is currently seeking zero tax on handmade products, the larger aim is to create awareness on natural and handmade products, he added.

On Monday, Mr. Prasanna and others, who had planned indefinite fast at Kasturba Ashram, were arrested after they sat on a dharna on the highway to highlight the issue.
