CHENNAI: A group of civil service aspirants in Anna Nagar on Monday night helped nab a man, who had allegedly snatched a woman’s chain in the area, by handing him over to the police patrol team. The accused has been identified as Manikandan (27), a resident of Anna Nagar, who, along with his friend Siva (26), allegedly tried to snatch the woman’s 11-sovereign gold chain before the students came to her rescue and recovered the ornament.

“The civil service students, who stayed in a nearby building, caught the accused and handed him over to our patrol team. Meanwhile, a friend of the accused, who was waiting at a distance, saw the incident and fled,” the source said.

The source said Siva, a resident of Mogappair, was also nabbed by the police on Tuesday and his bike and a nine-sovereign gold chain were recovered from his possession,

According to the police, this was the second incident that the duo had been involved in, on the same day. Just minutes earlier, the duo had snatched a 10-sovereign gold chain from a 60-year-old woman, N Krishnakumari.

Krishnakumari had been walking near Anna Adharsh school at around 7 pm on Monday when the incident happened. The woman, later, registered a complaint with the Anna Nagar police. Police said preliminary investigations were on.
