A petition seeking to quash the FIR filed against him by Tiruchi police was filed by sidelined AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday. The High Court had earlier stayed the FIR proceedings against him and actor Senthil.

Mr. Dhinakaran, in his petition, said Tiruchi police had no jurisdiction in the case and the registration of the FIR was against the law. Political motive was the reason behind the filing of the complaint, he said.

He alleged that the police had not conducted a preliminary enquiry into the matter and had straightaway registered a case.

Justice S. S. Sundar had earlier stayed the FIR proceedings initiated by Tiruchi police following a complaint from Tiruchi MP P. Kumar of alleged defamation. Mr. Kumar, in his complaint, said the actor, in a TV interview held in Chennai, had used derogatory language and instigated the supporters of Mr. Dhinakaran against him.

A case was booked under Section 153 (promoting enmity between groups), Section 294(b) (reciting obscene words in public), Section 506 (criminal intimidation) and Section 109 (abetment of crime). The case has been posted to October 23.
