Bhopal: Taking a U-turn, the Bhopal municipal council on Tuesday passed the proposal of a slaughterhouse at Adampur Chawani amidst uproar from opposition Congress. Unruly scenes were witnessed during the proceedings as a Congress corporator threw papers on the Speaker, while another manhandled security staff. The two corporators were suspended from the proceedings.

During last meeting, the corporation had unanimously decided not to proceed with the proposal of slaughterhouse as they were facing tough resistance from the residents of the area. However, on Tuesday, the council went ahead with the proposal and passed it despite strong protest from the Congress corporators.  The Congress corporators who were against the slaughterhouse at Adampur Chawani said that the council had already made up its mind to go ahead with the proposal but playing politics and misleading the people.

The same BJP corproators who had rejected the proposal with consensus during the last meeting following ruckus outside the hall, passed it this time without seeking a brief debate over it, they said.  Peeved over the issue, Congress corporator Shahwar Mansoori threw the agenda over the speaker due to which he was suspended from the proceedings for a day. Mansoori’s suspension led to uproar in the hall. Protesting the Speaker’s decision, Rafeeque Qureshi and some another corpoators allegedly manhandled security staff. Quereshi was suspended by the Speaker from proceedings for half-an-hour.

Speaking on Mansoori’s suspension, the speaker Surjeet Singh Chouhan said that despite being repeatedly told to take his seat , Mansoori kept speaking and later tossed agenda paper over him. He was suspended for his unruly behavior for the whole day, he added.

Congress corporators alleged that the BJP corporators were paid for passing the proposal. The opposition Congress said that the corporation was not concerned about the spread of dengue, malaria, and not taking any interest in taking up other issues ailing the city. Congress corporator Santosh Kasana alleged that the BJP corporators had already decided to build the slaughterhouse and they were only paying politics and wasted the last session in the name of opposing the proposal.

She said that we are not allowed to speak on real issues such diseases which are gripping the city and the ruling parry only want to divert the attention from the real issues. She said that if they construct the slaughterhouse in the area, they will cheat the worshippers of Kankali mata.  Meanwhile, Mayor Alok Sharma skipped media queries and made his exit from other door of the hall. Perhaps he did not want to answer the questions related to the slaughterhouse.

MLA Rameshwar Sharma, when contacted said that it is not necessary to stage a protest every time but we have informed Governor House about our opposition to the issue. We will continue to oppose irrespective of the fact that what the council has decided.
