Indore: Officials of Chhoti Gwaltoli police station have returned the complaint submitted by Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, which had requested police to probe into alleged mass copying incident in Liberal College, one of the centres for LLB first semester exams. Citing that the college is located in Rau, which does not fall under its jurisdiction, the police said the complaint can’t be entertained. They have also suggested the university to file a fresh complaint with Kishanganj police station under which the college falls. The university stated that it would soon submit the complaint in the police station concerned.

The case of mass copying by law students surfaced nearly four months after the exams were over, when a committee constituted by DAVV to probe into the allegations of poor evaluation went through answer books. Taken aback by literally same answer sheets of nearly 200 students, who wrote the exams in the same centre (Liberal College), the committee even had recommended action against the guilty and also those who ‘allowed’ the malpractice to happen at the centre. However, no action was taken by the university against the responsible, till the student wing of the Congress party raised their voice in the incident.

Nearly 20 days after the malpractice surfaced, NSUI staged a protest alleging that the university officials are having hand in glove with the college authorities and are covering up the matter. They also claimed that it was only for this reason that the university did not lodge an FIR in the incident. Following the protest by NSUI activists, the university on September 26 had sent a letter to Chhoti Gwaltoli police station requesting it to probe into the allegations of mass copying.
