Mumbai: Around 12,000 tabs will be provided to Class 9 students in the next 15 days by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Though the academic year had begun in June, there has been a three-month delay in providing the tabs to students of all civic schools.
Members of the education committee said that the delay was unacceptable. Aarti Pugaonkar, member of the education committee, said, “The first semester examinations are approaching yet the tabs have not been given to the students.”

The civic body claimed that there was a delay in the tendering process. A civic official said, “We did not find appropriate tenders but we have shortlisted two service providers.” On this the members asked, “Why was the civic administration sleeping all this while? Did the civic body not know that the academic year begins in June? They could have begun the tendering process well in advance.”
The civic body now claims that it will distribute tabs to all students of Class 9. Shubhada Gudekar, Chairman of the Education Committee of BMC, said, “We will give 12,000 tabs to students of Class 9 of all civic run schools in the next 15 days. The process was delayed due to the prolonged tendering process. Also, as the syllabus of Class 9 had a few changes this year we had to update the tabs accordingly.” The BMC has introduced this initiative to make the children tech-savvy and help their technological development. Also, it is an effort to be on par with other private schools.
