NEW DELHI: Mahindra & Mahindra has bagged a contract from the government to supply 150 electric sedans after the company agreed to match the lowest bid quoted by Tata Motors.

Energy Efficiency Services Ltd managing director Saurabh Kumar said Mahindra & Mahindra agreed to match the Tata Motors price of Rs 10.16 lakh on Wednesday.

The agreement is for the first phase of total 500 electric vehicles. Of this Tata Motors will supply 250 vehicles. Tenders for 100 more electric cars will be placed when required.

Tata Motors had on Friday won the country’s first contract to supply 10,000 electric cars by quoting the price. With GST the total cost of the sedan will be Rs 11.2 lakh per car.

For the second phase of 9,500 cars, Mahindra & Mahindra will again be given the option of matching the Tata Motors price for bagging 40% of the contract, Kumar said.

Mahindra is presently the only company to have electric sedan, e-verito. Tata Motors will supply electric version of its Tigor model.
