SpiceJet plans amphibious plane operations

New Delhi : SpiceJet Ltd is “working closely” with Japanese company Setouchi Holdings Inc for 10-seater and 14-seater amphibious plane operations to push up regional connectivity, the airline said in a release Wednesday. The company did not detail the type of operations it has planned.

“SpiceJet is exploring the introduction of smaller fixed wing aircraft to provide air connectivity to places which have hitherto remained unconnected due to infrastructural challenges,” the release said. An amphibious aircraft can take off and land both on land and water. Setouchi Holdings owns Quest, the manufacturer of specialised amphibious and non-amphibious aircraft globally. SpiceJet plans to use the Kodiak Quest aircraft and flight demonstrations have already taken place.
