Ajmer: Internet services in Nagaur city remained suspended and police force was deputed near M B Mirdha Girls' College on Wednesday after the lathi-charge incident yesterday. A group of people on Wednesday met district officials claiming that the land belonged to them and they wanted it back.
According to a source, M B Mirdha Girls' College had a ground where there was seepage in the walls. So, construction was started at that place.
"We informed police and the district administration that some people were encroaching the ground but no action was taken," said a student of the college.
Staff of the college also went to police station in this regard. They alleged that police did not register their complaint.
On Tuesday, angry students went to the spot and started demolishing the encroachment. Many student unions also joined them. Police reached the spot and tried to convince the students not to take law in their hands but the students remained adamant. To control the situation, police lathi-charged the students.
"Rather than acting against the encroachers, police beat up the students," said a girl student.
Many student unions tried to shut down the market and senior police officials and MLAs also reached the spot to calm down the situation.
Police arrested 21 students, including girls, for destroying property and disturbing peace.
On Wednesday, extra police force was called from Bikaner to control the situation and internet services were suspended for a day. Police said that the situation was tense but under control.
