Creating prints of a particular work of art is as tiresome or more than the effort to create the art work. It requires the time and effort of a skilled craftsman to develop the prints that would enable the artist to create multiple copies of the art work. Though not well known in Kerala, the print making art is quite popular in other parts of the country.
Conglomeration #2, the second in a series of exhibitions on prints, began at the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery here on October 1.
The exhibition features art works developed from different types of prints by around 100 artists from across the globe. Artists from Turkey, Austria, Macau, Bangladesh, Poland, Mauritius, Malaysia and the USA have contributed prints to the exhibition curated by Sunil Lal T.R., a faculty of Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, Mavelikara.
“Print making was the only way to create multiple prints of art works before the advent of the digital era. It is a laborious process and often very costly,” Mr. Sunil Lal said. Different types of prints like woodcut, etching, metal engravings, aqua tints and lithography are part of the exhibition that concludes on October 7.
