Bus knocks down motorcyclist, rams into three vehicles

A motorcyclist on Wednesday was seriously injured after a bus rammed into him and three other vehicles near Rabindra Sarobar area in south Kolkata, police said. He was rushed to a private hospital in Dhakuria where his condition was stated to be serious, an officer of Lake police station said. A green corridor was provided to take him to the hospital.

A green corridor is provided by turning all traffic signals green to facilitate fast movement of an injured person from an accident spot to the nearest hospital. Green corridors are also used to carry organs from one point to another for organ transplant.

The accident took place at the crossing of Lakeview Road and Southern Avenue.

The bus driver tried to escape after hitting the motorcyclist and as a result result rammed into three other cars.

The police then intercepted the bus and arrested the driver.

None of the occupants of the three vehicles were seriously injured, he said.
