Will create platform for peer learning, says Sisodia

To create a platform for peer learning among teachers, the Delhi government has launched a Teacher Development Coordinator (TDC) programme in all schools under the Directorate of Education.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia launched the initiative on Tuesday at Thyagraj Stadium, which was the second stage of the Mentor Teachers Programme introduced by the government last year.

Mr. Sisodia said that the government believes that a senior teacher in the role of TDC can create a platform for peer learning among teachers and they will be able to explore new ideas and processes of learning.

At the beginning of the current academic year, the heads of schools were asked to select one senior teacher for the role of TDC.

‘For a holistic picture’

Mr. Sisodia had asked all 50,000 teachers of the DoE to contribute in shaping the agenda of teaching/learning in their schools, said a government spokesperson.

The Deputy CM said that the role of a teacher is not just to ensure that a student learns the subject taught by them but also how it can make them a better human being.

“There has to be a convergence among different subjects so that the child gets the holistic picture. This is possible only if the teachers question the role of their respective subject in the life of the child, the topic they teach and how it is connected with other subjects,” said the Minister.

The government also announced plans to organise national and international level exposure to the TDCs to enhance their world view apart from regular thematic training.
