THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Francois Chat, a French an actor dancer-juggler, director will perform the street adaptation of ballet ‘The Rite of Spring’, considered to be one of the most influential musical works of the 20th century, at  Bharat Bhavan on Wednesday.

Francois Chat

The open air theatre performance starts at 6.30 pm. Jugglery with balls and spectators encircling the open air performance has a special role in Chat’s version, Le Sacre du Printemps des Rues. The original ballet and orchestral concert work by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky depicts the village life of Russia.

Francois Chat brings juggling to dance, borrowing certain movements from other choreographies of the rite, in the blink of an eye, but also highlighting the journey through time to a rite that is touched by the new spring. Mixing dance and juggling, since the creation of Clip-Clop in 1993 and L’oeuf du vent in 1996, to the most recent shows like Le Sacre du Printemps des rues in 2009, Francois Chat is both a remarkable juggler and a motion theatre artist.

He divides his time between Paris and Venice. He developed shows in a Venetian monastery, CTR (Centro teatrale di Ricerca) as a guest artist since 1999. He regularly creates content for international theatres or festivals; with his unclassifiable style, he is the creator of more than fifteen works. Alliance Française de Trivandrum is conducting the programme in association with Bharat Bhavan. Entry is free.
