Down with dengue and unable to pay medical bills, mother drowns in well with son

Unable to fund her and her son's treatment, this woman from Palakurichi in Tamil Nadu, decided to end both of their lives.

Pungodi and her son were suffering from fever for past one month. Her relatives took her to the government hospital as they did not have funny for a private one. It was then that the doctors said the mother and son duo were suffering from dengue.

The doctors advised to go to a private hospital but that would costed over a lakh.

On Tuesday morning, Pungodi jumped in the well with her son. Both were reported dead.

Her relatives claimed that she was heart broken as she was unable to pay the medical bills. They even blamed the state for not providing the right facilities to the residents of the city.

Various camps are organised to treat dengue and create an awareness around the disease, but there is a lack of staff members.

Pungodi is survived by her daughter.
