Canacona: Angry residents marched to the office of PWD (water supply) in protest against the quality of water they are being supplied with.

Around 70-80 citizens gheroed the officials at Chaudi. The residents were led by chairperson of Canacona municipal council (CMC), Prarthana Naik Gaonkar, deputy chairperson, councillors Samita Dhuri, Diwakar Pagi, Shantaji Gaonkar, Soiru Komarpant and Samrat Bhagat among others.

Residents said that the water supplied emanated a foul stench and despite complaints, the issue has not been resolved. A bucket of such water was placed in front of executive engineer Anthony Mathew, who agreed that the water was unsafe for drinking purposes. Residents also told him that Canacona has a number of persons who suffer from kidney ailments and that such water would aggravate their health condition.

Mathew assured the crowd and the CMC chairperson in writing that the problem would be solved within 15 days.
