Myanmar’s defacto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been stripped of an honour, which was earlier bestowed on her by the city of Oxford, due to her inadequate response to Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. Nearly 5 lakh Rohingyas have been displaced after violence against Rohingya Muslims erupted on August 25, allegedly instigated by Myanmar’s military. The ‘Freedom of Oxford’award was granted to her in 1997 for her struggle for democracy by the Oxford City Council. Suu Kyi is also a recepient of Nobel Peace prize.
