Madurai has 25.57 lakh voters

Special camps to be held on October 8 and 22

A total of 25,57,228 of voters are present in the 10 Assembly constituencies in Madurai district as per the draft electoral roll released by Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao here on Tuesday.

This is an increase of 15,731 voters compared to the previous draft roll released in January. In the draft roll released on Tuesday, after the special summary revision, there were 12,92,765 female voters, who slightly outnumbered the male voters who were 12,64,343.

There were 120 voters in ‘others’ category. The maximum number of voters were in Madurai East constituency (2,96,500) while Sholavandan (2,09,782) had the lowest number of voters.

Mr. Rao said that 31,525 forms for inclusion, deletion and corrections from January till July this year, of which 29,385 forms were accepted and updated in the electoral roll while 2,140 forms rejected.

 

He also said that the those completing 18 years of age as on January 01, 2018 can submit forms for inclusion to the electoral roll till October 31, 2017 in Deputy Commissioner’s office and zonal offices in Madurai Corporation, Madurai and Usilampatti Revenue Divisional Offices and all Taluk offices.

The public can also submit forms for change of details and changes of address within same constituencies, he added.

The Collector said that two special camps would also be organised on October 8 and 22, 2017, both Sundays, in all the polling booths for submitting the forms, with accompanying documents for address and age proofs. A revised final electoral roll would be released on January 5, 2018, he said.
