ACB raids irrigation office, nabs DE, AE for graft

KADAPA: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials conducted raid on the minor irrigation office and caught Deputy Engineer M Ramana Reddy and Assistant Engineer PV Vara Prasad red-handed while they were accepting bribe on Tuesday.According to ACB DSP N Nagaraju, contractor S Kadirulla carried out three desiltation works worth `15 lakh at Vakkaleru rivulet. The contractor had to be paid `13 lakh regarding the works. Kadirulla requested DE Ramana Reddy, AE Varaprasad to prepare M Book and dispatch it to Pay Accounts officer. However, they demanded bribe to prepare the M Book and send it to the Pay Accounts officer. However, the contractor told them that he could not give them bribe. He repeatedly requested the officials, but in vain.
The contractor complained to the ACB against the DE and AE. As per the plan, Kadirulla handed over `50,000 to DE Ramana Reddy and `30,000 to AE Vara Prasad and the ACB officials caught them red-handed while they were accepting the money. DSP Nagaraju said that victim Kadirulla complained to the ACB on the officials’ demand for bribe and based on his complaint, the DE and AE were caught red-handed. A case was registered against them. ACB CIs Sudhakar Reddy and Ramachandra participated in the raid.
