While Honeypreet Insan and Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh are in the dock over the recent legal issues, United Nations Water on Wednesday invited the duo to support its World Toilet Day event which is to be held on November 19 this year. UN Water took to Twitter yesterday and said, “Dear @insan_honey, we hope you & @Gurmeetramrahim will lend your voice and support #WorldToiletDay.” This comes as a surprise as United Nation Water is a prestigious and transparent global agency working for the welfare of the masses and yet it has invited a rape convict as well as someone against whom charges of sedition have been reportedly framed. Currently, Ram Rahim Singh is serving a 20-year jail sentence for rape, while Honeypreet is in police custody under the charges of rioting and sedition, reported India Today. She is being currently interrogated by Haryana Police for rioting and sedition.

Earlier yesterday, UN Water had posted a tweet asking the daughter and father duo for their support to celebrate the day. “Dear @Gurmeetramrahim, can we count on your support to celebrate toilets on November 19 – #WorldToiletDay?” the organisation twitted.

Incidentally, the issue of eradication of open defecation and building toilets across the country has been placed as a top priority in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to reduce or eliminate open defecation through the construction of individual, cluster and community toilets has gained speed. The World Toilet Day, however, is about inspiring action to tackle the global sanitation crisis. The United Nations General Assembly in 2013 officially designated November 19 as World Toilet Day. World Toilet Day is coordinated by UN-Water in collaboration with governments and partners.
